Before i go ahead let me add that his presentation was oozing with passion and unique ideas … excuse me if I could not capture the passion and energy in words … you got to be there to feel it. So he talked about Game of Business
The game of business
Success factors that helped -
simplicity is the ultimate sophistication – Da vinci
some of the simplest principles for success of org
oft asked question – what is the success mantra of your company? Answers vary from so many right variables (money, marketing ,team, efficiency etc )
Bhavin’s Gyaan
Business is like a game …. two most important ingredients for success of business
1. Right players
2. Enable team to take right decisions most of the time
point no 2 – you have the right team now how do you create right ecosystem to enable individuals the right decisions! 7 principles
1. All members must know how to play the game – obvious but do you follow this in ur org?
you don’t have to control your complete your team all the time. you dont make team who can take decisions but you create team that do tasks based on instructions given … this not gonna work …. do you want to play fooseball or the soccer…
[Recommends Two books - Maverick and how to play the game (that is if i could capture second name right) ]
what is it to teach play the game? … every player needs to know every aspect of the game. how many companies teach every member how to read balance sheets?
When all employees understand the dynamics of business, everyone can feel, think and act like managers … there is no management and employees — There is one TEAM
2. All the players are aware of the final objective – win the season? Play for the nationals? Compete in the worldcup?
3. Each season is broken into multiple games, each independent from the other – small immediate games (goals) that takes you close to your bigger goal
4. The score is always visible on a public scorecard – (Bhavin’s fav)
Think of game where nobody is maintaining score, there would not be any passion motivation …. [oh it really seems to be his favorite point .... which is evident from his voice.. going up and up and up in energy ]
5. Each player can link their actions to the outcome of the game — where do i fit in the game.
6. Victory party!! Need i say more about the importance of parties
if you win the current game celebrate
7. To the victor(s) belong the spoils –
He gave interesting example of giving love concept at Linden labs. Details about the same
1. corporate affairs and culture at Linden Labs
2. Love Machine at Linden Labs
To sum it up
1. Teach the game 2. share the vision 3. set near term targets 4.keep score 5. line of sight 6. celebrate victories 7. Align to everyone’s success
