Any Answers …

August 19, 2004

I have few questions … correct me if I am moving on the wrong lines thinking something strange or absurd …

heartily donate money to temples and other places of worship (as I found out here too, Temple part of the mission gets more money as donation than library!!!), but take their hands back when it comes to libraries and other such activities (here I am not talking about the ones who donate profusely and frequently, but the ones who even if cant afford it will take out some money for that donation box at
temple).
Today I had a talk, with a girl in my class, she is a final year science student in D U,I came to know that she don’t have an e mail id, I found it really strange that a science student and that too in Delhi, (it would not have amazed me if she would have been a student from some remote town of India or somebody not of my contemporary period), and the reason she gave was she don’t have a PC at home, and her accounts get disabled coz she don’t check them frequently. Fair enough, but then what I want to know what percentage do have e mail ids in India and how many of them use it for really productive purpose like being online is for reasons other than chatting and porn ?? Is IT really helping people coz from the day I left PC Quest I haven’t heard much of the IT happening in country, is it really going slow these days or its only talked about in the magazines. I am talking about IT for
masses not at enterprise or corporate level, other than making good software and serving foreign companies where is it?? What is it doing to make the life of rural India better, for whenever I travel from Delhi to my home town in Shahjahanpur (a district in U.P.) I find so much disparity in terms of I T that is really happening people don’t know what is it, what is seen as a joke once said by Lalu Prasad
Yadav, willy nilly is a truth “Yah IT YT kaya hai” . I might have given you the feel of being anti IT, its not, but the fact is am really searching answers for these and how can it reach masses and at all why should it reach to them is it really needed ?? Or IT is only meant for back end. Don’t know feel really strange that we talk of terms like wi fi, Bluetooth, Broadband etc while about 40% population
of India is illiterate and don’t know how many of educated people don’t even have rudimentary net identity of their own : an e mail address, and for no reasons I was on cloud nine, when I got a gmail id !!
