Proto04 Day1 – Last session

July 19, 2008

8 Lessons for funding your own startup

Gaurav from tekriti software shared the lessons he learnt from building tekriti from scratch. As the legend goes that on a New Year eve in 2004 three friends in US resolved that they will soon go back to India and start their own venture …. No idea, nothing it was just an itch to break free on the path J

Then again Blog came to rescue and they got their first project through a comment on Rajesh Jain’s blog and since then its been three years now they are still growing and growing strong with an interesting model where services and products coexist – a very rare phenomena in Indian IT industry.

Gaurav’s Gyaan

1. It is never about a big idea – They started with a small and beaten idea of Services Company …So grab the smallest opportunity and just go ahead on the path
2. Start Small but think big – don’t stop dreaming and taking risks
3. Inexpensive != Cheap – Fresh candidates comes with a cost of training etc so they are not necessarily cheap …. However they make up for knowledge with their energy and passion
4. For a startup sex appeal and attitude is most important – Who will join a no name company with no attitude to grow?
5. Build culture in company – coz company without culture is like body without soul
6. Don’t take start up thing too far – As soon as you are 5 member strong start thinking of rules, regulations and processes otherwise it might get painful
7. Selling – you got to sell from Day 1 ….if you cant sell you better sit at home
8. Funding products dream with services Money is hard but POSSIBLE – We did it 🙂

We can only take the courage to startup, rest just happens.

Finally they ended with one most important lesson –

Slog! Slog! Slog!

Nobody died of hard work. But some entrepreneurs came close

Phew!!

With this Day 1 came to an end …they canceled one session on open discussion coz it was already past the schedule…..

Join Back again on 19th for Day 2. Hope you enjoyed Day 1 J

Will carry my camera and will try to give you visual / audio visual treat of Day2
