Satyam – Another View

January 9, 2009

Employees

This is third continuous post on Satyam, no that doesnt mean that Idea Factory has got new favorite. It’s just that yesterday evening on my way back to home, I met couple of Satyam employees in train, had a quick chat with them about the things –

(Standing there with his other friends, his backpack was reading Satyam…I approached him)

Me: So, you work with Satyam .. 🙂

Him: Yes … 🙂

Me: How are things for you guys

Him: Its perfectly fine … no worries for us, its all rumours

Then, he got down at one of the station and after sometime I started discussion with his other friend –

Me: So, what is your client saying?

Him: Nothing to us, we are meeting our deliverable. He is happy with our work.

Him: Further, our management and  HR spoke to us and have boosted our confidence. We have nothing to worry 🙂

This was followed by usual chit chat about the fraud and also some facts about Satyam. How he has been happily working with Satyam and is quiet satisfied, about the lavish campuses of  Satyam in Hyderabad.

Blog

Later I stumbled upon this Blog from a Satyam employee, its worth reading to see his love for Satyam and for Raju and also sharing a rare photo of Raju

A view

I was talking to a friend of mine, who brought this perspective – How a guy who was a hero till 6th Jan turns into a villain and a fraud very next day on 7th Jan.  What is Mr Raju thinking now? All said and done Satyam was a top company and so was Mr Raju (also winner of many awards like Entrepreneur of the year!).  It requiers a courage to accept it too … Easwar pointed out some differences between Enron and Satyam … I think one the difference is this that Mr Raju has the courage (dont know if this is the right word) to accept it.  Tough ones to answer…

Time will tell whether he really had the courage to accept anything, or if there were hidden motives behind the letter as well
Also please don’t make him a martyr…or praise his courage…he was responsible for totally screwing up the Indian IT industry, gross corruption, and putting the livelihoods of 53K employees at risk. The Satyam guys you spoke to are fooling themselves

No second thoughts about what he did was wrong … he has played not only with employees but also the investors (small and big) who trusted and invested in Satyam.

However saying that coz of Satyam Indian IT industry is screwed up is not right … However it has exposed the loopholes in system and clearly marks out what others might be capable of doing… Indian IT industry and corporate India will be screwed if we are not able to deal with this …

Further, one who gets caught is a thief … who is not yet caught will be cautious now …
